Private Piano Lesson Agreement 2023-2024

Welcome to the studio! I am so happy to be working with you and your student! If at any point you have questions or concerns about the following, please contact me!

In-Studio Lessons

Students should bring all the required books to every lesson. They are expected to come to their lessons with all assignments completed. No food or gum is allowed in the studio. Nails should be trimmed short. The kitchen and bathroom are available for handwashing.

In-Studio Tuition

$30/lesson for 30 minutes

$45/lesson for 45 minutes

$60/lesson for 1 hour

Tuition is charged monthly and is due by the first lesson of each month. All invoices will be sent out prior to that first lesson. If there are any weeks that you know you cannot attend, please let Amber know as soon as possible.

Payments can be made via Zelle, Venmo, Apple Pay Cash, Cash, or Check.

Your lesson will occur on the same day and time each week that we mutually agree upon.

Any music purchased on behalf of the student will be added to that month’s tuition. Additional fees associated with programs such as Certificate of Merit, festivals, and competitions will be charged for students participating in such events.

Travel Teaching

Occasionally, I will travel to teach students in their homes. Please inquire for more information and for travel teaching tuition rates.

Missed Lessons

If you need to miss a private lesson, please notify me by 6pm the day before the missed lesson. I will do my best to reschedule at my next availability.

My studio focuses on goal-based practicing. What this means is that the student will be given goals to accomplish during the week rather than just a time required for practicing. While I do find value in attaching a minimum daily time limit to a student’s practicing, much more is accomplished when the student sets goals and focuses on that rather than watching the clock. I will help the student become successful at this. Depending on the age and level of the student this may involve parental involvement.

Studio recitals are held twice a year (December & June). It is expected that students participate. In addition, there may be other performance opportunities throughout the year including festivals and competitions.

Required Materials

  1. Access to a piano for daily practice, which is in good repair and tuned regularly (at least annually)
  2. Music Books
  3. Metronome (can use app or physical metronome)
  4. Folder for loose sheet music
  5. Music bag to keep all materials, books, flashcards, etc.

Each Student must purchase their own materials and music. Originals are required for copyright purposes, and all necessary music must be available at each lesson.

Parent Involvement

Parental involvement is of the utmost importance for your students’ success! The level of involvement expected of the parent is directly related to the age and level your student is at. Please be open to helping your student with their practicing. Parents are always welcome to attend lessons, but it is not a requirement. I look forward to working with you and thank you for your trust!

Studio Access

All street parking is free. I am also located next to Fireside Park that has additional parking around the perimeter.

As a member of Music Teacher’s Association of California, my students may participate in the annual Certificate of Merit (CM) performance and theory exams. A judge evaluates repertoire and technique, and the student takes a written theory exam. Fees range from $85-110 based on the level.
